The North Thompsonville Fire Department was established on
February 16, 1914 with 21 charter members. The department is a predominately volunteer fire department with a career staff on duty during weekdays when a majority of the volunteer force works out of town. The department’s primary response area is the North West corner of Enfield including the northern section of Interstate 91 to the state line.
In addition to fire suppression the North Thompsonville Fire Department provides supplemental Emergency Medical Service (EMS) response to medical incidents when the town EMS system requires additional resources. A majority of our firefighters are Connecticut certified Emergency Medical Technicians or Medical Response Technicians and two firefighters who are Paramedics who use this skill in other services. North Thompsonville Fire Officers and Firefighters continually train to maintain and improve their proficiency and skills in order to manage any situation encountered. These firefighters are to be commended for their dedication and service to the community.
The North Thompsonville Fire Station was renovated and added on to in 1992 to provide a modern well equipped fire station. The department has eight vehicles specifically designed and equipped for fire protection, rescue and EMS.
In order to safely and effectively attack and mitigate many fires and/or hazardous materials incidents a large number of personnel and specialty equipment is required. No department can safely handle these types of incidents independently. Our department works closely with surrounding departments, including our other town fire departments, the Enfield Police Department and fire departments in Massachusetts in a mutual aid system which provides additional personnel and resources when required.
